Revitalisation of the Railway Line no. 57 at Kuźnica Białostocka – Geniusze (S) section and Revitalisation of the Railway Line no. 923 at Bufałowo Wschód – Bufałowo (S) section
The contract for designing and executing building works to implement the project called “Revitalisation of the Railway Line no. 57 at Kuźnica Białostocka – Geniusze (S) section” and “Revitalisation of the Railway Line no. 923 at Bufałowo Wschód – Bufałowo (S) section” is performed by the consortium composed of Intop Warszawa Sp. z o.o. (Leader), PBIiK Sp. z o.o. and PUH „Rajbud” sp. z o.o.
This investment is to improve the cargo transport at the Polish–Belarusian border. This will increase the availability of the railway border crossing in Kuźnica Białostocka and reduce the duration of cargo transport from the East to the West.
This is a significant railway project as the works at the broad-gauge railway line Kuźnica Białostocka–Geniusze (no. 57), connecting Poland and Belarus, will increase the capacity of the route for cargo trains. After the repair is completed, broad-gauge cargo trains (1,520 mm) will return to the line following the period of absence lasting more than ten years. This investment will enable also to build a freight transfer terminal at Geniusze station.
Location: Voivodeship of Podlasie
Customer: PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A.
Value: PLN 194.9 million
Implementation period: 42 months
This task comprises e.g. comprehensive track replacement and installation of 34 new slip switches. Once the works are completed, operating parameters of the line will improve. For carriers, this means more effective handling of heavier and longer trains up to 1050 m with the load of 245 kN/axle. The trains will go faster, up to 60 km/h. The signal boxes at Kuźnica Białostocka, Sokółka and Geniusze stations and the lines covered by the works will receive new railroad traffic control systems and devices. PKP PLK inform the carriers will be able to offer more and heavier trains at Kuźnica Białostocka–Geniusze section.
The investment at Geniusze–Sokółka–Kuźnica Białostocka section is accompanied by the redevelopment of the spur line Bufałowo Wschód–Bufałowo (line no. 923). The comprehensive replacement of 2.6 km of track at this section will ensure efficient handling of trains e.g. to PKN Orlen fuel terminal in Sokółka.
The railway operator will also build extra track for trains up to 1050 m at the stations in Geniusze and Sokółka. There are plans to redevelop 25 engineering structures, including 10 bridges, and the modernisation of 16 level crossings.
